Steel Sculpture Hook Eye Closure For Raincoat
The long screw you see on this hook-and-eye-closure for this child's clear plastic rain cape is the result of learning from my mistakes.

The stainless steel hook that I constructed using a plasma cutter was too short and the closure kept opening even with the garment hanging on a hanger.

I had to do something quickly because the OMSI and Intel Childrens Christmas Charity Gift Exchange was only one day away and I did not have time to cut another hook with the plasma cutter.

I had two garments I had to make a quick fit for this same event. One was this cape and the other was for a transparent raincoat for a teenager.

So, I took old screws and carefully welded them onto the end of the hooks using Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) or 'TIG' as it is often called.

I tested these hooks by wearing the cape and walking around the block. I am a 62 year old man; much larger than a child. That cape stayed securely closed, no matter how much I moved my arms around inside it!

Make mistakes, and learn them and take the plunge and roll on with life!
